Are you struggling with creating goals or a positive vision for 2017? Or maybe you have a goal and need to figure out how to achieve it? Here are some tips to help you get started for the new year.
Taking a few minutes to quietly reflect on where you are in your life journey today is a great way to get started. While you reflect on where you are, consider dreams that you have for the future. Think about all the pieces of a pie that make up your life: physical, spiritual, emotional, professional, educational, etc. Is there a category of your life that you want to work on? Don’t choose a goal because you think you “should,” but rather, listen to your intuition.
Choose A Theme
Choose a word or a mantra as a theme for the new year. This is very popular, and I have seen it everywhere over social media. I have done this for a few years now, and it’s a fun and simple way to keep your vision in mind while you set smaller goals. Popular words could be: brave, courageous, believe, connect, listen, explore, truth, power, or strong. Or you could choose a favorite quote or scripture.
Most Importantly: Stay Positive and Reasonable
Glue-girls are realistic. We don’t have all day away from our responsibilities to work on achieving our life goals. We’re caregivers, and we need to make progress a little bit at a time. We do this by making small, reasonable goals first. For example, doing 5 minutes of body weight exercise is a more attainable goal than committing to going to the gym for an hour each day. It’s not that you CAN’T go to the gym each day, (some of you may have the resources to do so), but set yourself up for success by starting with small goals FIRST and work your way up to larger goals.
Finally, stay positive! You absolutely CAN and SHOULD let yourself grow. Personal development is key to preventing burnout and bringing fulfillment.
